In short
- Your results and settings stay in your own browser. They are never sent to us.
- Every file of the game (pages, map, fonts, code) comes from this website and its map address (tiles.crossroadle.com), both at Cloudflare. Your browser doesn't contact any other server while you play.
- Like every website, the hosting provider sees technical connection data (see below).
- If you send us feedback, we receive what you write.
What is stored in your browser
The game uses your browser's local storage to remember things between visits. It works like a notebook that only your browser can read: nothing in it is sent to us or to anyone else, and we can't see it. It is not a cookie and is not used to recognise you. These entries are needed for the features you use (resuming today's puzzle, your statistics), so the game doesn't ask for consent.
| Name | What it holds |
|---|---|
crossroadle.city |
The city you played last, so the game opens there. |
crossroadle.hasSeenHowTo |
That the instructions were shown once, so they don't open on every visit. |
crossroadle.daily.v1 |
Today's daily puzzle in each city: where you clicked, which hints you used and whether you finished, so a reload continues where you were. Replaced by the next day's puzzle. |
crossroadle.stats.v1 |
Your daily results per city (puzzle number, won or not, number of guesses and hints), for the statistics and streaks. |
crossroadle.practiceDistricts.v1 |
The districts you chose for practice, per city. |
crossroadle.feedbackSent.v1 |
The times you sent feedback in the last hour, to prevent accidental repeated messages. |
To delete all of it, clear this website's data in your browser's settings (often called "site data" or "cookies and site data"). Note that this will delete your statistics.
Hosting and connection data
The website is hosted by Cloudflare Pages and its map files are stored in Cloudflare R2 (both Cloudflare, Inc.). When your browser loads a page or a piece of the map, Cloudflare necessarily receives your IP address, the address of the file, the time and your browser's identification, and may keep this in short-lived logs to deliver the website and protect it against attacks. We don't use these logs to identify visitors. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Feedback
The feedback form shows you the complete message before anything is sent. When you press "Send", the message is stored in a database at Cloudflare (the same company that hosts the website, see above). We store exactly the text you saw: what you wrote, and, only if you left them ticked, the puzzle you were playing and technical details (browser, screen size, game version); your e-mail address only if you entered one; and the time. To stop floods of messages, we also store a scrambled code made from your IP address and the date. It can't be turned back into your address, and the next day the same address gives a different code. We use feedback only to answer and to fix the game, and delete it when it has been dealt with, at the latest after 12 months.
If sending fails, the form offers to send the message by e-mail instead; it then opens your own e-mail program, and we receive your e-mail address with the message.
Your rights
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation you can ask what we hold about you (in practice: only feedback you sent), and have it corrected or deleted. Write to the address below. You can also complain to a data protection authority.
